Verbier is located at an altitude of 1500 metres, in the French-speaking
part of the Valais and in the heart of the sublime chain of the Alps.
The high plateau of Verbier benefits from exceptional sunshine since
it faces south-west, and opens onto a magnificent Alpine panorama
ranging from the Combins massif to that of the Dents du Midi, and
including Mont Blanc. The resort itself consists exclusively of wooden,
chalet-style buildings, which lend it all the charm of a large village.
Easily accessible, Verbier is situated
only 250 kilometers from the Basel border and 170 kilometers from
Geneva international airport. It is also less than 25 kilometers from
the main Valais motorway.
The
resort of Verbier has an incomparable skiing area. Known
as the "4 Vallées", this consists of a network
of 410 kilometers of runs and nearly 100 modern ski lifts. This
means that it is possible to enjoy many days of skiing and still
find something new - without lengthy waiting times. Created
at altitudes of between 1500 and 3330 meters, the runs enjoy
exceptional snow conditions from November until April, and allow
enthusiasts of all levels to find ideal runs. One-third of these
are classified as "blue", or easy, one-third are "red"
for intermediate skiers and the final third are "black",
i.e. reserved for the experienced.
The highest point of the skiing area
reaches 3330 meters - the Mont-Fort glacier, infallibly offering
some extra snow and a superb downhill run, via a stunning mogul
section, and of course an incomparable, 360° panorama of
the most prestigious peaks of the Alps.
Verbier has a worldwide reputation,
above all thanks to its off-piste and helicopter-access skiing.
Easily accessible from the ski lifts, the region offers many legendary
off-piste and high-altitude routes open to experienced skiers or
snowboard enthusiasts. Powder snow or dizzying corridors, areas
known by the chosen few alone ... or by guides who are happy to
accompany an adventurer on skis or snowboard - and whose presence
offers security!
The true capital of freeriding in Europe, Verbier hosts one of the
world's best-known competitions in this discipline in mid-March
of each year: the Nissan O'Neill Xtreme Verbier, which takes places
on the North face of the Bec des Rosses. This mountain has a slope
with an incline of over 55°, and the 25 best professional riders
take part in the event by invitation. In short, this is an extremely
high level competition that guarantees a unique spectacle - and
at the same time creates awareness among the media and the public
regarding the safety aspects linked to off-piste skiing or snowboarding.
